Indigo Speciality Coffee & Bakery
Indigo is part of the adjacent and ever-popular Chana Masala, which opened in late 2019 and has been thriving ever since. This coffee shop, bakery, co-working space and restaurant is always bustling with activity despite other coffee shops around being empty. It is especially busy in the mornings when you will find a long line of motorbikes parked outside and you may even struggle to get a seat! However they have a terrific and quieter 2nd floor which is a great place to hang out if you need to get some work done or relax over a book.
Bakery offerings include specialty breads, pastries and cakes all made in-house. On the food menu you can find a wide range of western dishes including [my favourite on the menu] the unique ‘Fatima’s Hand’ consisting of breads and superb Mediterranean dips like olive tapenade, red pepper salsa, hummous and more. There’s also traditional all-day breakfast offerings such as chia seed pudding and eggs benedict, not to mention an impressive range of plant-based burgers and much more. Vegans and vegetarians are well catered for at Indigo.
For the coffee lovers, you will find an extremely impressive range of coffees including beans from around-the-world as well as local roasts. There are impressive drip coffees, cold brew coffees, lattes, ristrettos and other beverages such as Indian chai tea. Decaf and plant milks are available.
All in all, Indigo has a very warm and welcoming vibe, not only are the staff friendly, happy and attentive but among the customers you will find a mix of both western and local clientele which not many venues on Koh Phangan manage to achieve. Indigo truly offers something for everyone.

This humble little coffee shop lies directly on Hin Kong beach in a chill area filled with mangroves that line this part of the bay. The café is slightly rustic and has a genuine earthy feel. One of their big features is that they roast coffee beans from northern Thailand right on site which makes their coffee one of the freshest and tastiest on the island. In addition they offer home-made jams and pastries to enjoy there or take-away.
Although there is limited seating inside and no air conditioning (a bonus for many), there’s a beautiful deck under the trees as well as Thai style bamboo seating out in front of the mangroves. You will not find this place advertised anywhere so you need to know about it to find it. It isn’t usually very busy so it is perfect for sipping a coffee in the breezy air or working in solitude. The few people that do come here are either long-term westerners or Thais. A visit here is quite refreshing and makes a nice change from the typical Koh Phangan trends.

Dots is conveniently located in Thong Sala right by Panthip Market and a short walk from the pier. It is well geared up for co-working with plenty of outlets and comfortable, work appropriate seats. It is frequented mostly by hip, young nomads and tourists.
The coffee is of a good standard albeit the prices are somewhat higher than average on the island. There is also a small food menu and sometimes there are events held such as talks and socials.
One thing that makes the place very unique is that there is an electric piano which can be booked for use with headphones.
It makes a good choice for those who want a co-working space in a relaxed environment.

You will find this coffee shop on the Chaloklum road about 1.5 kms out of Thongsala, not far from the police station on the opposite side of the road. It is quite a unique place because of the kitsch and cosy design which is very retro and the furniture makes it feel a bit like your grandmother’s living room.
Although it is not in the main tourist areas you will find plenty of westerners who come here to hang out and even co-work.
Although the inside space is not very big there is also outside seating and out the back you have a cool view of the mountain. There is a range of coffees, baked goods and some typical light food.

Cookies Cafe and Little Cookies
Cookies Cafe in Sri Thanu is one of the busiest coffee shops we know of. It opens early in the morning and you will find westerners coming here to hang out at all hours of the day. They have decent coffee, a range of baked goods as well as Western and Thai breakfast and lunch dishes. This place is not really geared up for working, instead you will find people coming here to meet and chat.
Additionally, they have a second location on the Hin Kong Road called Little Cookies. This one is not as busy but attracts both co-workers and simply coffee drinkers alike. It has a large garden area which can be enjoyed by people with dogs. Another unique feature of Cookies are the free-range chickens on site which lay the eggs that are served up in the breakfast dishes.
Opening Hours: 8AM – 6PM Daily, Little Cookies Closed Sunday.
There are two branches of this popular, trendy coffee shop, one in Haad Yao and one in Ban Tai. What makes Bubba’s particularly unique is that the owner Robin sources organic fair-trade coffee beans directly from farmers in Northern Thailand. The coffee is roasted right in the Haad Yao location and is sold in lots of the other coffee shops and restaurants on the island.
The coffee is deservedly top notch, partly owing to well-trained baristas. Bubba’s popularity however is a result of a unique and delicious range of menu items which includes a variety of vegan and non-vegan dishes. High on our list of favourites include things like their acai bowls, avo toast and eggs benedict. In high season you may find it hard to find a seat at either location so in order to not miss this spot, it’s best to go either early morning or just after lunch hour.

On the menu there is a wide range of drinks including coffees, teas, juices and healthy smoothies. The menu includes some refreshing dishes such as smoothie bowls. They also have sweets such as cookies and cakes. It is the perfect place to come on a hot day to chill, enjoy a delicious refreshment and be reminded of what a beautiful place Koh Phangan is.
Opening Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM Daily
One of Koh Phangan’s newest spots, this café opened in Haad Salad village in mid 2020. Head up a flight of stairs to reach the café which is a very relaxing space with a variety of seating. It is particularly comfortable to just sit, chill and read a book. They are usually only open in the mornings but watch out for interesting events which are held from time to time and for which the hours are extended for. These can include talks, workshops and live music.
The café attracts event attendees, families and co-workers. It has been well designed and has a funky feel. Although the menu is somewhat limited compared to others mentioned on this blog they offer a good range of coffee and teas as well as some tasty light food options such as toasts and porridge.
Regular gatherings for cryptocurrency enthusiasts, both novice and experienced investors, happen here at Buddha and their Facebook page provides regular updates.

This fully vegetarian café and restaurant is located in Haad Chao Pao. They offer a wide range of coffees and teas as well as Thai and western vegetarian food. Dishes include smoothie bowls, salads, breakfasts, fresh spring rolls, smoothies and desserts such as cakes. Many options are vegan so it’s a good choice for those preferring that cuisine.
The decor is very loungey with low floor seating, sofas and some outside tables. It has a rustic and arty feel with paintings on the walls and lots of second hand books for you to browse through. They also even have a separate room for large parties or meetings.
You will find cool, arty and yogi type people eating and drinking here and although it isn’t the most ideal place to work in, many people still do. Prices are somewhat lower than average for Koh Phangan.

Lek’s Organic Shop
Lek’s Organic Shop used to be a small shop in Sri Thanu until Jan ‘21 when they took over a much larger space on the middle road which was formerly Over The Moon. They are not only a coffee shop but a co-working space with inside and outside seating and a shop selling oils, herbs and spices, natural remedies and many more things for the health-conscious.
The food and drinks are all vegan. They always have a creative, rotating vegan cake on the counter which is hand-made by the server herself. They often also have other surprising and unique treats available such as Russian biscuits. They have a huge range of specialist teas and coffee offered with a wide range of plant based milks. You don’t need to be a vegan to appreciate all the things this place offers.

World’s End Cafe is for anyone who is missing a vibe from back home. This small establishment is nothing spectacular but has a very buzzing atmosphere of westerners who are not travellers but live on the island all seem to know each other. Food offered consists of simple, western dishes that might satisfy those that want something different from Thai food or the fancy, healthy vegan dishes, at very affordable prices.
Located in Chaloklum and overlooking the beach you are likely to feel naturally drawn to the atmosphere if you walk past.
